For a long time, anything labeled as “alternative healing” lived in that interesting-but-skeptical space for me. Sure, I’ve always been open to holistic health, but I like to truly understand what I’m stepping into before I fully embrace it. I tend to ask questions because I like to learn. I really like to know the “why behind the practice”… What makes it work, and what it might actually do for me.
When you look back through history, you realize that alternative healing really isn’t that alternative after all. In fact, it’s been used for centuries across cultures all over the wonderful world. Long before modern medicine, people used sound, ritual, prayer, and natural practices to support the body, mind, and soul. Healing was often woven into daily life and the community, supporting a deep connection to the world around them.
From sacred music in temples and Gregorian chants in monasteries, sound has always played a role in wellness. It’s been used to bring peace, regulate the nervous system, and create a sense of connection.
Lately, frequency healing has started getting more attention in the Western world. I found myself curious because it aligned with what I already believe about the body, the mind, and how connection to sound is a crucial part of wellness. We’re created with rhythm, order, harmony, and feeling. Sound just feels like a natural part of that design.
So today, I want to sit with you and talk about the wonder that is frequency healing. I want to share what it is, why it’s gaining attention, and what both my personal experience and research say about it.

Does Frequency Healing Work? Understanding the Practice
Understanding frequency healing starts with knowing what it is and how it works. At its heart, frequency healing uses sound waves to bring balance back to the human body… to align energy, release tension, and support the nervous system.
When you understand the purpose behind it, you can see how this practice may improve mood, reduce stress, enhance wellbeing, and even support physical health. This post will help you know what to expect if you’d like to explore frequency healing for yourself.
What Is Frequency Healing?
Frequency healing refers to the idea that sound vibrations or specific frequencies may influence the body and mind by promoting relaxation, balance, or well-being. Every cell in your body has a natural frequency… every organ, every energy center, even thoughts carry vibration. When these rhythms get out of sync, tension, discomfort, or stress can take over.
Healing frequencies, whether in sacred music, solfeggio scales, Gregorian chants, or singing bowls are meant to restore harmony. The sound interacts gently with your body, inviting emotional release, relaxation, and a sense of balance. It works with your natural design instead of forcing a change, and it can be deeply restorative when practiced with intention.
As I discussed in episode 104, “Celebrating 2 Years of the Cinnamon Effect,” the best health practices don’t cost a thing. And for the most part, they’re easy.
If you enjoy mindful practices, journaling alongside frequency healing can amplify the benefits too. I love using my journal during meditation or sound baths… writing down small moments of calm, reflection, and intention. It’s a simple way to connect with your body and soul as you explore these frequencies.
I mentioned in Episode 64 of my podcast that the body responds to light, sound, and pulsed energy in ways we don’t always notice straight away. That episode can really help you understand how frequencies don’t just influence emotions. They also influence physical energy, clarity, and balance.

What Are the Healing Frequencies?
Healing frequencies are specific sound frequencies measured in hertz (Hz) believed to support different aspects of the body, mind, and soul. Each frequency carries a unique energy and intention. And when you listen mindfully, it can help you find harmony… a rhythm aligned with calm.
The whole idea is that the body resonates with certain vibrations naturally. And when you expose yourself to specific frequencies, you encourage alignment, healing, and balance in subtle yet profound ways.
Here are a few specific examples of healing frequencies, where you can find them, and what they do:
639 Hz
639 Hz focuses on connection, communication, and empathy. It’s often used to improve relationships, foster understanding, and support emotional clarity in the listener. This frequency can help you feel more in tune with yourself and others… a sense of alignment that isn’t forced, but gentle and intentional.
639 Hz is commonly used in solfeggio music or singing bowls during meditations aimed at compassion and relationship healing. You might notice subtle yet strong shifts in mood, patience, or clarity when exposed to this vibration. It’s a quiet, thoughtful way to nurture balance.
285 Hz
285 Hz is associated with physical healing and regeneration. Many people use this frequency to support tissue repair, improve circulation, and encourage the body’s natural ability to recover. When combined with mindful listening, it can create a subtle yet powerful effect… a reminder that healing isn’t ever about force, but more so gentle alignment and attention.
In ancient times, practitioners would usually pair 285 Hz with chanting, bowls, or sound practices to support recovery and wellness. Modern sound therapists continue this tradition, using it to help people feel restored and energized.
528 Hz
Often called the “love frequency,” 528 Hz is associated with transformation, repair, and deep emotional healing. Many people report feeling an innate sense of calm and open-heartedness when listening. Some even say it can help repair DNA. Whether that’s true or not, the experience itself is incredibly powerful, soothing, and regenerative.
This frequency is often used in sound therapy, solfeggio music, and meditation practices to reduce stress, invite positivity, and encourage a sense of peace. Listening to 528 Hz can feel like a gentle reset, where tension drips from the body, and the heart heals. It’s a natural reminder that harmony is healing.
174 Hz
This frequency is grounding, soothing, and protective. It can support relaxation, pain relief, and stress reduction. Due to its low, deep tone, people often use this frequency to slow down and support healing. For example, you may benefit from 174 Hz if you’re lying down to sleep or sitting down to meditate.
174 Hz is often used in meditation, restorative sound baths, and sacred music to help the listener feel anchored and safe in their space. Listening can create a soft, steady rhythm in your body, helping your muscles and energy to release tension naturally.
Do Healing Frequencies Work?
So… Do healing frequencies actually work? The short answer is: yes, there’s growing evidence that sound can influence the body in meaningful ways. Research shows that listening to sound frequencies and healing music can support a calmer nervous system, reduce stress, and even influence blood pressure. In clinical trials, adults exposed to healing sound or meditation music reported lower stress levels and lower systolic blood pressure.
In another study, participants using sound-based meditation found improvements in stress, mood, and anxiety, along with better heart rate variability. In this instance, control groups saw no change. Now, even if the tide is out on some of the claims about DNA repair or chakra alignment, the effects on stress and nervous system regulation are abundant.
Beyond research, there’s also just the plain old human experience (that’s really anything BUT plain). As I mentioned before, Gregorian chants, sound healing, and singing bowls have supported physical, emotional, and spiritual health for centuries. Even subtle changes are meaningful.
How Do Healing Frequencies Work?
Healing frequencies operate through three main mechanisms… resonance, entrainment, and vibration. Each works on different levels of the body and mind. When you combine them, they can create a deep sense of alignment with an even more powerful connection.
Resonance
Resonance happens when the frequency matches the natural vibration of your body or organs. When your body resonates with sound, cells align easily, energy flows freely, and a subtle sense of calm washes over you. Resonance allows you to tune into your body and its optimal rhythm, which feels restorative and grounding. It’s almost like your own natural hum syncing with the world around you.
Entrainment
Entrainment is basically when your body syncs with external rhythms. Heart rate, brain waves, and energy patterns may start to align with the sound you hear. For example, listening to calming solfeggio frequencies can naturally slow breathing and the heartbeat, encouraging relaxation.
Entrainment helps create consistency between the body’s internal rhythms and the external environment… which can feel surprisingly stabilizing, even after just a few minutes.
Vibration
Sound waves gently vibrate tissue, increasing circulation, releasing tension, and settling your energy. The effect is super subtle but still powerful.
The vibrations move through the body, almost like a gentle massage from the inside out! Combined with mindful awareness, these vibrations can support emotional release, physical healing, and an overall sense of balance. Afterwards, you’ll feel more present and connected to the beautiful world around you.
What Frequency Heals the Body?
Different frequencies support different areas of wellness. 528 Hz nurtures emotional balance, 639 Hz encourages connection, 174 Hz is grounding, and 285 Hz supports physical recovery. Exploring which frequencies resonate with you can be a beautiful mindfulness practice. It’s a way to tune into what your body and soul need most.

How to Use Frequency to Heal
Integrating frequency healing into your life can be simple, enjoyable, and gentle—the effectiveness of sound truly is abundant. Here’s how you can use frequency to heal:
Use Singing Bowls
The vibrations of singing bowls interact with the body subtly. Even a few minutes of listening can cause serene relaxation and energy alignment. You can gently place them near you or follow along with videos that guide you through the vibrations.
Move While Listening
Moving while listening can hugely amplify the effects of sound. Gentle walking, yoga, stretching, or even rebounding while listening to healing frequencies can really improve circulation and energy flow. You can learn more in my post on the health benefits of rebounding!
Listen to Solfeggio Frequencies
You can find solfeggio frequencies online or in apps. Playing them during quiet moments or meditation can help you focus and become calm. Try listening, even just for a few minutes, while breathing deeply, and letting the sound wash over you.
Make It a Daily Ritual
Even five to ten minutes a day can make a difference in your life. Consistency paired with mindful attention helps frequency support the body, mind, and soul over time. Try incorporating it into morning or evening routines for the best results. Step out into the sun, and start your day energized.
Try Gregorian Chants
Gregorian chants carry centuries of intentional sound, which is incredibly powerful to listen to. Listening with an open mind can help your soul soften, reduce stress, and support emotional balance. You might even combine them with journaling, noting small shifts in your thoughts or energy.
Throughout time, sound has been a significant part of healing…
So…does frequency healing work? Many would say yes. I know I believe in it! Even as scientific evidence chops and changes, its effectiveness, the act of listening, feeling, and intentionally opening to sound can be powerful in itself.
